How Covid-19 changed how I travel

How Covid-19 changed how I travel

I used to be travel overseas once or twice a month, mostly for group travel of Bwamtrip. The range of staying in the ground, which is in Jakarta, is only a couple of days. I rarely unpack my luggage because I know that I would be fly again. Today is the two months I’m staying on the ground because of the Covid-19. This definitely changed the meaning of traveling in my quarantine days.

There are many videos of people trying hard to practice the lifestyle of traveling by making an airport video with luggage in the treadmill. I admit that it was hilarious. Especially if you are a traveler and you are waiting to travel again. Staying home is a damn challenging thing. However, I have my own way to keep the joy of traveling alive while quarantined.

How Covid-19 changed how I travel

As a night owl, I wake up a night, finish something, take a short sleep, and wake up morning but a bit later than the other.

I travel to the balcony to take a deep breath. I am thanking God for the chance He gave me, keeping me alive amid whole craziness of Covid-19. I continue my journey to the first floor, grab some water to help myself hydrate. Travel back to the second floor, to my desk, turn on my laptop, and continue my work.

During this Covid-19, my team and I found a way to keep our sane and help our startup alive by selling staple food. My lovely mother volunteers herself to cook the food for us to sell. I promise to talk about this in a different post. This sudden business creates another opportunity for to make my new travel journey a bit further. If I need to send the staple food, I will walk around 2 KM to the expedition office to send the package.

To keep me feel the joy of traveling, I still am not unpacking my luggage until now. All clothes are still in the luggage. If I need to change clothes, I simply take them from the luggage.

I always cook whenever I travel. The thing about staying home in Jakarta means you don’t really have to cook by yourself. Our family tends to cook delicious Indonesian food for us from time to time. Which is totally different from the food I usually cook when I’m away. Therefore, I took the time to cook something for me and the other the food I always cook when I travel. I know something they won’t even bother to ask the food.

Moral of the story

Travel is not just about going overseas and seeing another culture. Something if we see from the different perspectives, travel could mean so simple. Going to the balcony, having tea while enjoying the other houses from your terrace. Going to the expedition office, meeting people without even talk with them, because everyone is concern about it. Take a short walk around your house.

Thank you for reading until part, I do appreciate it. This is not really important, I know. But I just like to share something for you. How about you? How are you during this stay at home edition? I hope you make the best of it — even only sleep all day. Enjoy!

I am a language trainer based in Jakarta, Indonesia. I love traveling, like a lot. I enjoy walking around, language immersion in different places, have a cup of coffee at some unfamiliar coffee shop, embrace the history or art in many different museums. I love coming across people and blending with new culture. I like having conversations with new people, blogging the stories and inspire people.
