A Unique Escape at Kakao Friends Concept Museum

If you are into South Korea (later will be written as Korea) and instant messenger then you probably know (or only heard) about one of the famous instant messengers in Korea called KakaoTalk messenger. As I use several instant messengers for my work and daily activities. KakaoTalk is one of my active messengers. I’m grouping some people according to where they come from and their activities with me. My Kakaotalk contacts are for the people from Korea and/or Korean student that I taught. So I really familiar with Kakaotalk character. From the KakaoTalk character, they made a pretty unique Kakao Friends Museum.

Kakao Friends

When I heard that Kakao Friends opened its museum in Korea, as a museum lover, it was a very delighting news for me. I added it to my Korea’s bucket visited-list all of a sudden. I love Korea moreover because of this (I’m easy to be happy). The next good news was it was open in Hongdae, which is good as I love staying in Hongdae. It is located right across my favourite guesthouse in Hongdae.

The Kakao Friends Concept Museum itself is a space designated to allow users to feel closer to the Kakao Friends. As soon as I arrived in Seoul, Kakao Museum was my first list to visit, yet it was not my lucky day because it was still under groundwork for the upcoming exhibition.

In our BWAMTrip winter 2018 group, we changed the first-day itinerary due to arrival occurrences, and I was unpredictably thinking about the museum that I failed to visit a couple of times. I brought group tour there and guess what? The exhibition was (is) ongoing. Never been that happy when I guided a group. The Concept Museum itself is located in the basement of the three floors building of Kakao Friends shop.

Musée de KAKAO FRIENDS

It is designed darker and black for you experience the yellow colour of Kakao character. I really enjoyed it for I love dark colour. The second Kakao Friends Concept Museum exhibition was being held that time is ‘Musée de KAKAO FRIENDS,’ revealed the limitless possibilities that the fusion of Kakao Friends and art can inspire. Two things in such one place that you wouldn’t able to ignore. ‘Musée de KAKAO FRIENDS will end on May 28th, 2018, after that the Museum will change to something following the season.

You could feel the work between the Kakao Friends and Daelim Museum from the display of the emotion between the Friends. You would be able to see its favourite Kakao Friends from the perspective of Artist in many genres. Through photography, graphic design, and sculpture. There are seven sections inside of it. As you entered the museum and passed the ticket counter, you would enjoy some scenery from the lighting.

As I enjoy art so much, I love how they turnaround the ancient artwork to make a change in popular culture that goes beyond satire and humour. Guess, art also could be a way to express a new of parody-based cultural phenomenon revolving witty and novel ideas. So everyone can see and enjoy the Kakoa Friends from a new point of view.

Parents, kids, teenagers, or even adults are able to enjoy the museum. You probably need to join the line if you want to take photos, just make sure you don’t touch the art.

Kakao Friends is sure ready to become a cultural icon and a part of contemporary art in its own way and enjoyed by everyone.
