New normal: We’re not going back to normal

new normal

The large-scale of social distancing is about to end in Indonesia, while the infected number is still increasing without any slight sign of flattening the curve. While the government previously advise people to harmonize with Covid-19, some people are questioning about the news that is continuously changing; I got it too. But once again, we need to understand that we’re now at the stage of uncertain circumstances.

WHO announces that Covid-19 may never go away with the possibility we’ve come to terms with the virus. In other words, it’s almost the same as harmonizing with it. Employing it that we’re not going back to normal, instead, we need to move forward with the new things: new normal.

New normal means changing for all

New Normal means we need to change almost everything we do radically. How we work, exercise, socialize, shop, even how we travel. Every country is trying hard to flatten the curve to slow the spread, also try to save the economy. And to do that, the new normal is the one we got right now. By the time I wrote this, I imagine what the future holds with this new normal. Either it helps the economies, but sacrifice much life, or it helps the economies and saves many lives.

Honestly, I am sort of don’t like how it sounds. One imagines a world when we watch soccer, and we have to sit far away. When we travel, we have to be cautious about our surroundings. We’ll find awkward compromises that allow us to retain some semblance of social life. Movie theaters will take out half their seats, meetings will be held in larger rooms with spaced-out chairs, and gyms will require you to book workouts ahead of time, so they don’t get crowded.

We don’t know what this new normal looks like, of course. As the world has changed so many times, and it is changing again. We will eventually adapt to and deal with it. Following the changes, some people will lose more. The best we can hope for is everyone will come to their sense to make everything work. Taking care of ourselves while having empathy with one another. Don’t forget to always follow the guideline of hygiene and healthy life by wearing a mask, taking vitamins, always wash your hands, and keep a perfect distance from the others. New normal doesn’t mean everything is going to end. We’ll be stronger and better than ever. This is a time where we just got to get each other’s back. Be strong, and stay positive.

I am a language trainer based in Jakarta, Indonesia. I love traveling, like a lot. I enjoy walking around, language immersion in different places, have a cup of coffee at some unfamiliar coffee shop, embrace the history or art in many different museums. I love coming across people and blending with new culture. I like having conversations with new people, blogging the stories and inspire people.
